Counting down, counting up

About 7 months pregnant here

I'm big and getting bigger, and I get a little rush when I tell someone I'm due in less than a month. Meanwhile, darling Elizabeth is turning into a little girl so fast I can hardly stand it. She reminds me of this in new ways every day. While driving around she was babbling and singing Happy Birthday to herself, then I overheard her count to 20 clear as a bell! What?! Who is this kid?

Other things she said today that I want to remember:

no preblem
mommy do it
come play Legos
down please
broccoli then pasta
I'm cold
teeth hurt
more olives please
oh man!
nice!

Last week the weather was abnormally cold, and I loved it. We wore long pants and sweatshirts outside and socks to bed, and I can't tell you how nice it was for me to have a taste of fall weather in a climate where that season doesn't exist. I also made the most of dressing Elizabeth in tights every chance I got, (we have quite the collection of Lily's hand-me-downs thanks to Kerry), little girls in tights are just cute.

Me (and baby boy), Elizabeth 18 months, Richard

Elizabeth got her first hair cut... I just couldn't take the below the ear mullet any more! So, I went for it. It was just a trim in the back really. It doesn't exactly look great, but I think it's better. :)

Toddler in the Terminal

Elizabeth 14 months, Chicago airport

This is what we came up with to save my back from the hours and hours walking through airports. Cute right? Easy, fast, made strangers stop and smile, and E loved it.

After 8 wonderful weeks in SLC, coming back to the UAE was difficult. Even with the comforts of my own bed and space, it felt strange. I had become so comfortable being with family every day, popping over to see a friend, eating American food, and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Elizabeth didn't remember our apartment at first (except for her crib which she got very excited about). The kitchen and bathrooms have a small step in the doorway that she kept tripping over. For two days we kept hearing the SMACK onto the tile floor, ouch.  We showed her to be careful of them and she's starting to remember.

The flight is the first thing people ask about. It went as well as can be expected. Keeping in mind that I have traveled across the world with her 4 times now, my perspective may be a little... different. So, it was hard, very hard. But it always is and she did well. She slept off and on for about 6 hours on the long flight, and never had any meltdowns. Honestly, I think the journey was harder on me. Within 24 hours we went through 3 airports, 3 times through security, with 8 bags and a stroller, a 5 hour layover, 21 hours of flight time, a toddler, and I'm 4 months pregnant! After lifting bags and a baby, and walking, standing, sitting for that long, my body was shutting down. That night I was blissfully giggling to myself when I got to lay down in my bed that night. Thank goodness Richard was with us, it would have been impossible without that stud of a man.

So, did you catch that little news drop? I am 17 weeks pregnant, we are expecting baby # 2 in February!

Darling Elizabeth is very vocal these days. She is trying to talk and often screams too. She also tries to repeat things we say, even if it's a funny sound like a yelp. She is communicating a lot more.

She says: no, yes, up, down, please, uh oh, book, shoe, nose, baby, cheese, chicken, Mama, Dada, Papa, Gma, help, toes, ni ni (night), eh hoo (thank you).

She loves: babies, baby dolls, olives, turkey, Starburst candy, animals, and Dada.

She eats: Her new love is tomatoes, but eggs, oatmeal, cheese, broccoli, peas, beans, crackers, and raisins are all still favorites. She loves using a fork to eat and it still surprises me she does with it, and she prefers an adult size fork, if you please.

Music is a big deal for her. It calms her or makes her happy and she sings along. She especially loves it when we sing to her. She is so cute whenever any kind of music comes on because she stops whatever she's doing and starts dancing, which looks like bouncing from the knees, fast feet, and twirling.

It's still quite hot here, so we like to go on walks through the cool halls of the huge malls. For Elizabeth, it's more like sprinting the entire time. She laughs and laughs as she cruises farther ahead, she's getting fast too!

She is good at folding her arms as soon as we say, "Let's say a prayer." She keeps them folded to the end, and then sometimes wispers, "Ahmeh," for Amen. I usually start laughing from the cuteness.

The UAE keeps me busy in different ways than America. I am falling back into my roles here, getting back to church callings, getting in touch with friends, and making doctor appointments. Fighting for a parking spot, and feeling at home.

37 weeks pregnant

This is my excited face, can you tell?

Just a few short weeks until our baby girl arrives and we are all making faces like this these days. Especially my parents, they think she's coming any day now. Whenever I talk to my Mom she asks if she's come yet. They really love being grandparents. :) I want to make sure she's had all the time she needs to develop so I'm in no rush... yet. :)

Richard and I haven't chosen her name yet. Everyone asks us, and although we have a few ideas, nothing is decided. I know, the suspense is killing you! I think we'll know her name once we hold her and see her beautiful little face.

I am doing well. My body has all of the normal changes happening that go along with the stage of pregnancy that I'm in. Typical discomforts and all that, but I'm so glad that all has been normal and healthy.

This big pregnant lady is happy.

Dusk in May

I was welcomed home from work by this view. Lovely.

And yes, I work about 6 hours a week tutoring Ana and Luis, 7 year old twins from Brazil. We work on their spelling, reading, and math. The pay is nothing fancy, but it's been nice to help me stay busy, get out of the house, and feel productive. I'm grateful for that.

It's kinda weird to be getting closer and closer to the time when I'll have a baby to protect and love (outside of the womb that is). I watch my belly move now so much, as she wiggles and pokes from the inside, making it bulge and dance.

I am just amazed and in awe of this little miracle growing inside of me.

30 weeks pregnant

7 months preggo is wonderful, except for all of the many symptoms that go along with it. I read these pregnancy books that list all of the changes (read pains and problems) and yep, I think I have them all. (Do I get a cookie for getting 100% at least?) And since I have 2 months left I know it will only get more intense.

But, ultimately I am grateful for the blessing to go through it all and welcome our little girl into the world soon.

growing belly = growing baby = happy cat

22 weeks pregnant

We just had another check up at the doctor and had the detailed ultrasound and our baby is healthy and happy! We also learned that baby Ethington likes suger, spice, and everything nice... that's right, we're having a GIRL!

I am...

sitting down to a huge plate of green beans sauteed in soy sauce while I wait for my baked potato to cook, yum. I'm happy to be eating a big helping of healthy veggies right now and grateful that they taste so good to me. Really, I'm just happy today.

I woke up to birds tweeting out side my window. I cleaned the house with a smile. (It's been a while since I did that) I am cooking and baking banana bread today. Again, happy.

I am thinking about my pregnant belly, our growing baby. I had the most tender experience the night before last, just thinking about it makes me smile.

My other half/lover boy is across the world right now. His sweet Grandma, that we all love so much, passed away and he went to Utah to be with his family. I was missing him and the loneliness was making me very depressed. With my mind and emotions racing, I was having a difficult time falling asleep. I said a prayer asking Heavenly Father to bless me with peace and the feeling of love to comfort me.

I was laying on my back in bed when a faint sensation interrupted my train of thought. A small movement, just inside my belly, the tiniest whoosh feeling. I couldn't quite believe it. (People have started asking if I have felt the baby move yet, me always answering no with a little tinge of worry and longing attached.) So this is what they're talking about when they try to describe what it feels like!

Overjoyed, I just laughed out loud and smiled, and laughed again. I just laid their still, and said aloud, "I love you too baby," as a tear rolled down my cheek.

Cheesy but oh so wonderful. What a change in my attitude from just a moment before. I am so grateful to God. What a tender mercy to feel the baby move for the first time, especially when I was feeling so alone. A blessing.

18 weeks pregnant

Um, wowzers. I feel like I've grown a lot this month since the last photo. It's only going to get harder to share these pregnancy photos (I plan on taking one every 4weeks) so I better just stay consistent for posterity. (:

- How we're doing at 16 weeks -

Thanks so much for all of the great comments! We loved them and appreciate your support so much!

I want to share some excerpts from an email I just wrote to a friend which explains how things are going -

Nope, I still haven't gained any weight, although my stomach is growing bigger for sure! My appetite and stomach are smaller now, and treats just don't sit well in my stomach. I sincerely hope that treat part changes soon! I have NEVER before felt self conscious about being under weight, but when I walk in the maternity clinic here, I get lots of confused looks from people like what are you doing here. I went to the Dr. yesterday for a check up and Richard was able to come too. We heard the heartbeat again and that's always a joy. The nurses and Dr. were giving me a bit of a hard time because I had lost a kilo since my last visit. They said that I'll probably start gaining weight now, with the nausea subsiding. I think I will too, especially since I have a huge baked potato loaded with butter and cheddar cheese every day for lunch! Yummy. That's just one of the carb and fat filled snacks that I enjoy. I still sleep a ton and now have a new symptom, crazy intense dizziness/vertigo. I am scheduled to have the detailed ultrasound when I am 22 weeks, so the end of February. It's going to be hard to have to wait 6 weeks for that, but they say it's more reliable at 22 weeks, so that's when we're doing it. :)

Being pregnant is such an amazing experience. All of these changes going on physically and emotionally and spiritually, and all with out me really doing anything. I have to eat right when I'm hungry, I yield to crying even more easily, and I have learned a new meaning of fervent prayer. It's just the natural way that God intended and planned out. It's good for me to remember that... that this miracle of life is in the Lord's hands. Richard and I realized last night that we had overlooked something that could affect the health of our baby, and we were very upset and worried about it. For times like this, it is a huge blessing to have a testimony of the power of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a comfort to me to know that the power of prayer and fasting is real. It is a comfort to me to know that the Lord has a plan for us and that through Him, all things are possible.

Thank you for your continued prayers for us and our baby.

Love,
Cat
