Dubai Gold Souk (Market)

Jon, Wendy, and I drove Kathy to Dubai to drop her off near the airport. Kathy is a dear friend who is now moving way. :( But before we said farewell to Kathy, we all went to explore the gold souk in the old and original part of the city. This is the street just off of the souk entrance. Below is the main part of the gold souk, it is outside but shaded.

One can discover all kinds of things here. One of the first things I spotted was this 10 carat diamond. Not high quality or close to perfect but...Wowzers!

So naturally, I had to try it on and snag a photo. He he.

This is the entrance to the biggest store in the souk. This guy dresses up and holds the door open for you, that's his entire job, but I love it! Seeing him was my favorite part.

This is in the display window of that store, and yes, it's solid gold.
Sounds coo coo for coco puffs, but it gets the tourists (like us) to come around.

They also had this on display, an outfit woven from stands of gold!

But most of the shops looked like this...

Or this...

Or even this...

This bright yellow metal may look super fake, but I found out that it's that way because it had so much gold in it. The amount of gold gives it that bright, orange-looking appearance. The stuff that looks fake is really 24-carat gold.

Catherine,
My sister's very best friend is moving to UAE! We need to connect you guys so that they can have some auto-friends upon arrival. What's the best way to connect you and Richard with Alisa and Corey? They'll probaly need help getting acquainted with the city and with the ward/branch (not sure which) etc...

Kind of a cool little market. Love the ten carat ring. Yikes, somebody's fiance is in trouble.
