I don't know how many of you have been to the Little Sahara Desert in Central Utah, but it's pretty desolate out there. Who knew??? We took the boy scouts out to the dunes for some adventure, and you would not believe the wind in this place! We spent several hours of the night playing capture the flag on the top of the sand dunes. It was pitch black, but we had 20 glow sticks to establish flags, jail, and the line of demarcation. What a blast! After wearing the boys out for a few hours, we had long jump contests off the edges of the sand hills and had a blast. Only two boys went back to camp crying about sand in their eyes. . . :)
We all enjoyed a sleepless night as the wind nearly blew us all away. Give me a break, man! The one redeeming event of the long night - pictures at sunrise. Below you'll enjoy a desert sunrise shot and my "ya kiddin' me?" face shot taken after the reality of my sleepless night had settled in (I don't want to hear any guff about the scruff - you gots to scruff on the campouts!):
Hot dangit! The boys were pretty miserable when we finally decided to get up and they all wanted to go home, but that didn't stop me from convincing the die hards to play football for a couple of hours. The others made s'mores and sat in the car the entire time - suckers!!! I'm stil finding sand in my wallet, my phone, and all of my camping gear, but all in all it was another scouting success!
