July 4th!!!

***Most of you are reading this post before "Let the Games Begin" down below. While this is completely permissible, you may miss out on a little context and it is most likely that you will be sacked.***

We had such a successful trip with the Scouts backpacking up Mt. Grandeur that Catherine and I decided to do an encore trip the following Thursday, July 3rd. In the three years that Catherine and I have been married, we have never been camping together - wazupwitdat??? We put a delightful end to all of that nonsense as we enjoyed a romantic hike and night together tucked back in the canyons of the Wasatch. It was so relaxing to be removed from the rest of the world, tuning in to the rhythm of nature with the constant hum of a running stream. The night, in a word, was perfect.

In the morning, we made our descent down to Church fork and met up with some of the Ethington clan for July 4th breakfast in the canyon. Nothing like bacon, eggs, and mountain potatoes to start the 4th off right!!!

The entire day was one party and adventure after another. Mom and Dad Spencer created a the mother of all Kiddie-pools for little Sam and Lily. Seriously, this was a pretty awesome pool. The backyard has three benches that are situated in the form of a "U." With a little rebar and several 4X4 wood studs, they closed off the U, installed a giant tarp, and filled the whole thing with water. The end result???

Two very happy children!!! We had blast - played in the pool all afternoon. In the evening, Catherine and I gathered with the Ethington clan for some barbecue, badminton, Cold Stone style ice cream, and incredible fireworks! Holladay City puts on a very respectable firework show every year, and it isn't more than a half mile from my childhood home. With five little kids in tow, we walked over to (the late) Holladay Elementary to enjoy the bright and colorful light and the chest-resonating booms of the firework show. What a great day!!!
